Ron Howard In Line To Direct Movie Based On Neil Gaiman’s ‘Graveyard Book’

The Graveyard Book Image

Last April it was reported that Disney had acquired the rights to turn Neil Gaiman‘s children’s fantasy The Graveyard Book, and that The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline director Henry Selick was set to make it into his next stop-motion project. Unfortunately for fans of the book and Selick’s previous works, Disney decided to shut down the project due to scheduling and development conflicts.

Jump to today, and it looks as if Disney is ready to give the movie another go. According to sources, the studio has entered into negotiations with Ron Howard to direct the movie. And this time, they’re looking to turn Gaiman’s book into a live-action movie instead of stop-motion.

The Graveyard Book tells the story of a young boy whose parents are murdered, leading to his being raised by ghosts until he becomes a teenager and his parents’ murderer comes back for him.

Howard is of course known for a lengthy resume of beloved blockbusters and award-winning motion pictures, including Willow, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, and Frost/Nixon, just to name a few.

Would you rather see Henry Selick’s stop-motion version of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, or Howard’s live-action version?

  1. Neither – Selick’s movies are gorgeous but put me to sleep and Howard’s movies lack that certain….grimness. How about Aardman?
