Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles
By Martin Powell & Jamie Chase
Based on the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Dark Horse Comics
Release date: February 13, 2013
Hardcover | Kindle
The Hound of the Baskervilles is probably the most popular of all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories. It’s been adapted for radio, film, and television numerous times, including an episode of BBC’s Sherlock, as well as plenty of illustrated versions. Because it’s such a famous tale, you might be wondering – like I was – if Dark Horse Comics’ new graphic novel Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles by Martin Powell and Jamie Chase was worth reading. Surprisingly, it totally is. Sir Charles Baskerville has lived in fear of the centuries’ old curse put upon his family by the horrible transgressions of his ancestor, Hugo. A ghostly hellish hound, so terrifying its victims die of fright upon seeing it, has been stalking the Moors around the family’s country estate, and Charles fears he’ll be its next target. Some may have thought Charles’s fears irrational, until he’s found dead out on the Moors with the tracks of a massive hound found near the body. Charles’s friend and physician, Dr. James Mortimer, fearing for the life of the next heir – Sir Henry Baskerville, who’s on his way from America to claim his inheritance – travels to London to seek the help of the great detective Sherlock Holmes.

| Remembering “The Great One” Jackie Gleason On His Birthday
Jackie Gleason, the late rotund, physical, and verbal comedian, who was best remembered for an eclectic array of characterizations on his self-titled show which was one of the more dominant programs during the 1950s Golden Age of Television, and especially as irascible yet loveable blowhard Brooklyn loser bus driver Ralph Kramden on one of televisions all-time great sitcoms The Honeymooners, has a birthday today. To those who follow “everyman” type comedians who transcend a chubbiness in physicality in today’s society, everyone from Seth Rogen to Zack Galifanakis and from Jonah Hill to especially Kevin James, owe a direct or indirect nod to the man who was coined “the great one,” Jackie Gleason. Comedians through the years like Chris Farley, John Goodman, Jim and John Belushi, and the great Carroll O’Connor as Archie Bunker on All in the Family also owe the direct or indirect nod.

| $5 MP3 Album Deal: Sly And The Family Stone ‘Anthology’ |

Anthology, an expansive collection of the best, most well-known work from Sly and the Family Stone, is now available in MP3 format from Amazon now for only $5.00 as part of their monthly $5 MP3 Album Deals. Sly and The Family Stone remains an R&B ensemble who not only bridged together multi-racial unity within their lineup – being one of the first, if not the first, bands to sport black and white members (a practice that bands like War and Santana would also later utilize) – but also attempted to do that same bridging with their audience. The band acted as sort of the link between Motown, which brang classic R&B/pop to Caucasian audiences on an innocent assembly line and what was going on over at Stax Records, which was decidedly more African-American its approach and its output. Sly and the Family Stone changed their flavors and their styles often. They kept it light, they kept it heavy, they kept it relevant and irrelevant. They played it high, they played it low, they played it political, apolitical, and ultimately, they became a party band and a radical one as well.
