James Wan knows how to scare his audience, as evidenced by his previous films, Saw and Insidious, the latter of which has a sequel currently in production. But before he started to work on Insidious Chapter 2, he directed a film called The Conjuring, and as you can guess by the title, it is a horror. However, unlike his previous works, this film is based on a true story.
Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Patrick Wilson (Insidious) star in The Conjuring, which is about about two paranormal investigators hired to investigate strange activity at a Rhode Island house in a very remote location. Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston play the homeowners who called Farmiga and Wilson for their help.

While this is the online launch of the trailer, the footage was shown at last year’s New York Comic-Con. You can read our panel coverage and check out our photos of the event here.
Watching trailer in the day time doesn’t have the same effect as watching it in a darkened theater, but the suspense is there and it lingers on until the very last second of this trailer. I’m actually glad that Wan is one of the few directors who is focusing his horror attention on the art of suspense rather than splash us with gratuitous amounts of blood or have dull rebooted horror icons chase its victims around in the dark, which is also why that I can’t wait for Insidious Chapter 2.
Here’s the synopsis for The Conjuring:
Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring†tells the horrifying tale of how world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.
