NASA has posted a video message for St. Patrick’s Day from Expedition 27 Flight Engineer Catherine Coleman, who’s currently aboard the International Space Station.
Watch the video here below.
Coleman, who is part Irish, brought with her on her ISS mission several Irish flutes, courtesy of the Dublin-based group The Chieftains. In the video, she talks a little bit about the instruments and then plays them as she floats inside the space station.
In related news, last month Canadian astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield performed at the ISS along with The Chieftains, who were live in Houston, Texas. You can watch that video here below too of them playing Van Morrison’s “Moondance.”
Update: There’s some more messages from the ISS today, this time from Commander Chris Hadfield, who’s decked out green – complete with a green polka dot bow tie. To celebrate the day, Hadfield posted photos he took of Ireland from space as the ISS passed over the country this morning, as well as a rendition of “Danny Boy” he recorded this morning. Read more about it here and listen to the song below via Soundcloud.
