Back in December, it was announced that this year my favorite band of all time, Rush, was finally (finally!) and deservedly going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Well, it’s official, Rush is now in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
The ceremony, which also saw Heart, Public Enemy, and several other artists added to the Hall, was held on Thursday, April 19, 2013 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, with Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters doing the induction honors for Rush. And not only did the Foo boys give the speech about the Canadian trio, but they also teamed up with producer Nick Raskulinecz to perform the “Overture” from Rush’s 2112 live on stage while sporting the Rush 2112-era look, complete with white satin robes and wigs!
Watch the video here below of the performance capture by fan video – be sure to watch til the end for some cool shit!!!
Oh man, I have to say, I am in all my glory watching this – Dave Grohl with the long-blond wig, rocking the old-school Alex Lifeson look: awesome! Then he does the solo!!! Oh so so good.
The ceremony will be aired on television until May 18, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO.
Of note: Although Rush has been eligible for nomination into the Hall since 1998, they only obtained their first nod this year, which resulted in their induction. The repeated snubs have been a constant source of contention for fans of the band (and we are many!). All three band members – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart – were on hand for the ceremony, where they took the stage to be inducted and also to perform. We’ll have more coverage here of the event once it airs on HBO.
And by the way, there’s still a lot of Rush albums on sale in CD format right now for only $5 – I highly recommend these (on the deals page, click on the links for the CDs).
