Talks of a possible movie version of the hit Fox (err…21st Century Fox?) TV drama 24 have existed since the show ended in 2010, but ultimately never happened.
Instead of continuing to try and make a movie, a very interesting new plan is being attempted. According to reports, Fox wants to revive 24 for a limited series run, and star Kiefer Sutherland is already is talks to reprise his iconic Jack Bauer role.
Exactly how this will work and if it means another full 24-hour single season will be made is not yet known, and nothing is even official yet. But the new story arc will start from scratch, and will be presented over the course however many new episodes they settle on using.
24 showrunner Howard Gordon, who’s now an executive producer of Showtime’s hit drama Homeland, was the one who came up with the idea and pitched it to 20th Century Fox TV, Imagine TV, and Fox, who were all immediately sold on the idea.
If this works, it could be another cool new option for TV series. Instead of cancelling something entirely, the door could be left open for an extra limited series season here and there as cast and crew’s schedules allow.
Never missing a chance to bring it up, this would also be an excellent option for Fox to give Firefly another go. Give it a limited run that can be made whenever the very busy talents of that show have a chance to make it, and see how it goes.
What do you think of a limited 24 revival over the previously planned movie?
