Last September we found out that Guillermo del Toro and LOST showrunner Carlton Cuse were teaming up to turn The Strain—a trilogy of vampire novels written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan—into a TV series at FX. Now the cast for the show is starting to take shape.
It’s being reported that Mia Maestro has joined the cast of the show as the female lead, joining the already cast Corey Stoll as the male lead.
Stoll will play Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City, who’s called in to investigate a viral outbreak that contains an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. Maestro plays Dr. Nora Martinez, a brilliant biochemist who works closely with Goodweather.
Maestro has appeared in numerous things over the years, including The Motorcycle Diaries, Alias, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Stoll has appeared in Midnight in Paris, Law & Order: LA, and the Netflix original series, House of Cards.
The pilot for The Strain is written by del Toro and Hogan, and del Toro will also direct it. Cuse will act as showrunner if the series takes off, as well as executive producer with del Toro, Hogan, and Gary Ungar.
