FX is developing quite a few limited series, which are basically just mini series with a limited amount of episodes set beforehand.
One of the limited series being developed that has just been announced is Mohicans, which is based on the James Fenimore Cooper novel The Last of the Mohicans. The story is set during the French and Indian War (the North American chapter of the many worldwide wars of the time that are together known as the Seven Years’ War) in 1757, and follows Natty Bumppo, also known as Hawkeye, a white man raised by Native Americans.
The FX project is described as “the story of America’s beginnings as a nation as told through the eyes of Cooper’s classic characters from the historical novel The Last of the Mohicans.”
The book was originally published in 1826, and has been adapted numerous times, including films in 1911, 1920, 1932, 1936, 1963, 1976, and the latest and best known adaptation in 1992, which was directed by Michael Mann and starred Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye.
Chris Crowe, a co-writer of the ’92 film, will also be a writer on the limited FX series along with Kerry McCluggage and Steve Beck.
Mohicans is another in a growing list of limited series that FX has in development. One of the limited series they have lined up has already been given a full greenlight, Fargo, an adaptation of Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1996 Oscar-winning movie of the same name.
