Ready to rock out on creativity? Though the summer movie season may start winding down, the keen, inspired connoisseurs of these films never fail to stop musing over how to extend these blockbusters’ platforms. One format: trailer mashups.
Here on Disney In Depth I love to share outstanding original content on the web, and trailer mashups found on YouTube are no exception. Let me pass along to you six of my favorites that showcase this summer’s biggest motion pictures’ trailer audio – set to the visuals of Disney, Pixar and Marvel favorites.
IRON MAN 3/Aladdin Trailer Mash Up
Aladdin is Stark. Jasmine is Potts. This is Iron Man”¦ in Agrabah! Scenes from Disney’s high-flying animated comedy Aladdin seamlessly complement the enrapturing exposition from the Iron Man 3 trailer in this mashup from YouTube user ChiefBrodyRules, also known as Twitter user Frank Ireland. Among the best moments that match these two up: when Genie is unleashed from the lamp, with the audio of when individuals are rapidly ejected from Air Force One. Who would have guessed the climactic moments from Aladdin could be so well integrated with the sounds of Iron Man 3 action sequences, and vice versa? ” Compliments to the (trailer mashup) creator.
Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer PIXAR’s The Incredibles Style
The ethereality of the Star Trek Into Darkness teaser hypnotized me when I first experienced that bit of movie magic. YouTube user art4life15 lays a spell over viewers with this trailer mashup that incorporates the mystique of The Incredibles. The imagery of the destruction and sadness from Pixar’s action-packed movie says it all in that first minute. When the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch materializes, doom sets in, especially witnessing Syndrome as Khan. “Is there anything you would not do for your family?” he says. Then the whole Incredible clan appears. Cue the title. Ooh, chills.
Toy Of Steel Trailer (Toy Story In The Style Of Man Of Steel)
How special is Hans Zimmer‘s new theme to Man of Steel? Already it feels iconic, breathing revelation in its lively movement. Hear the orchestration from the latest Superman installment against dialogue from the Toy Story films. I appreciate YouTube user UnusualSuspect2013, also known as Ross Thompson on Twitter, for taking the mashup idea even further by sliding in the characters’ voices to develop this story. Of course, our man Buzz plays Clark Kent, who feels like the only one of his kind in the universe. Now here would be a cool movie that combines the concept: Buzz Lightyear of Plastic. Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? This mashup is easily one of the best of its kind that I have ever seen.
Fast N Furious Ralph
The race is on for Wreck-It Ralph to join Vin Diesel‘s crew in the next Fast and Furious after watching this trailer mashup by YouTube user wetwebwork. What a smart idea to utilize the Sugar Rush competition scenes into a mashup that brings in the audio from another vehicle-infused motion picture. Though Dwayne Johnson loses some bulk in the form of scrawny Fix-It Felix, he and his gang of car-frenzied cast-mates could make for sweet fellow racers, should we ever see a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph.
Disney’s The Great Gatsby Trailer
For the few of you who have ever envisioned F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby with Cinderella and Prince Charming replacing Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gastby, here’s what you have been always waiting for. For those of you who have not, you will still find value in YouTube user starfishify1’s clever mashup, which meshes the wild New York dancing from the 1920s through placing in The Princess and the Frog jazz-set jives. I don’t know if I would want to see Cindy and Charming coping with strange deaths, alcoholism and scheming in Baz Luhrmann’s version of Gatsby, but this makes me ponder that idea.
The Hangover Toy Story Part III
By far the strangest mashup you will find in this edition of the column rests in YouTube user Brian lightyear’s hands, combining the worlds of Woody and the Wolfpack. Toy Story 3 and The Hangover Part III are logical films to see interconnected, am I correct? (Wink) Great casting choice with Rex as Ed Helms’ Stu. I, for one, hope to catch the nervous dino let loose – even more so than in the short Partysaurus Rex. Let’s see a buddy road trip comedy with Zack Galifianakis and Rex, name it Dinosaur Due Date: Extinction, and call it a day. What do you think?
