SDCC 2013: I, Frankenstein panel

One of the best things that can happen at San Diego Comic-Con is getting a first glimpse at movies that you don’t know anything about and getting hyped for them. Such is the case with Liongate’s I, Frankenstein, which I hadn’t seen anything on, but came out of today’s panel very excited about it. Writer/director Stuart Beattie, actors Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), and graphic novel writer Kevin Grevioux (Underworld) were there to talk up the movie and show a ton of footage from the film.

Beattie started off by explaining that the story is about a Frankenstein’s monster that has lived for over 200 years. In this version, the Monster gets caught up in a war between Gargoyles and Demons.

They then cut to the footage, which had a lot of action and looked very similar to the Underworld series, which makes sense with Grevioux’s influence. There was a fair bit of CGI, but nothing that looked all that impressive at this point. There was plenty of action, with the monster fighting tons of gargoyles with both sticks and blades. It just seemed a bit similar to other movies and not as exciting as one may like. Beattie said that they are working on converting the movie into 3D.

Beattie explained that the story picks up from the end of Mary Shelley’s original novel, taking the monster from the good doctor’s death up to the modern age.

If you liked Underworld and want to see a movie that is very is similar to it, right down to an appearance from Bill Nighy, than this is something you will be excited to see.
