D23 Expo 2013: Marvels Thor: The Dark World banner

Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston appeared with Marvel’s Kevin Feige to discuss Thor: The Dark World at today’s D23 Expo live-action studio presentation in Anaheim, CA.

While only some new footage, which showcased Portman’s Jane, was shown beyond the recently-released trailer, the sequel shows signs of epicness.

The first scene shared found a rumbling in a woods-set environment, full of explosions and then massive sword-fighting. Thor made a most timely and mighty entrance, using his hammer to destroy the scene. Parts of this have already been shown in the trailer, but this expanded on the already-revealed footage. Then Feige shared the aforementioned trailer.

Hiddleston emerged from backstage first, joking that he was “not going to sing for you today,” referencing him chanting out the “Bare Necesseties” during yesterday’s animation event.

He said he felt like he should apologize for not being in costume at this event, once again nodding to a prior appearance – at Comic-Con, when he got the crowd to surrender to him as Loki.

Portman did not share much, and neither did Hopkins, but the legendary actor received a standing ovation.

Feige described Portman’s Jane Foster character as a “fish out of water” on Thor’s world.

“I didn’t check her passport,” Hopkins joked on Portman’s character arriving on his home realm.

Next the audience was previewed an exclusive scene of Foster’s first day on Asgard. It looked like a medical team was peering over Foster, having just arrived. Hopkins’ Odin doesn’t feel like Jane belongs there. Enter Thor. They argue over her presence. Jane’s fragile state concerns Thor and Odin looks over her and proclaims that the infection is defending itself.

As the cast walked off the stage, Feige said that he still gets “excited in being in the mere presence of those people.”

Same here, Feige.

Check out Thor when he arrives on screens November 8, 2013!
