Kickstarter Spotlight: FUBAR: Mother Russia

FUBAR: Mother Russia is the first full length graphic novel from Jeff McComsey‘s FUBAR series. The FUBAR anthologies are historical zombie stories and contain some great stories and art. This gem is from the first volume of FUBAR and was originally a twenty-eight page story that ended in a cliffhanger. And while Jeff fully intended to finish the story out in the second volume, he had other projects that arose to capture his attention and never got a chance to get back to it…until now. And that’s where this Kickstarter campaign comes in.

By now, you are probably familiar with how this works. You pledge a few hard earned dollars and are rewarded with some coo,l one-of-a-kind perks. The more you donate, the more you get. I’ve pledged a fair bit of money to several of these over the past couple of years and let me say that it feels nice to be a part of something bigger than myself. You may not be changing the world but you certainly are having an effect on the world of the person or persons behind each of these fundraisers. And did I mention there are cool gifts? Need a bit more information before you give up your cash? Then read on, my friend…read on.

Set in Russia in 1943, the premise of the story is that “what the war started in Stalingrad, the zombie outbreak finished. It’s an open graveyard for two million soldiers and civilians.” Centered around a young female sniper, the story starts off with her spending her days depopulating the area of zombies, one shot at a time from her secure tower. She’s well off with lots of provisions and relative safety but things abruptly change when she sees a small boy in perfect health walking right into the zombie apocalypse.

What happens next? Well, kids that’s precisely what this Kickstarter is going to be about. I am definitely interested and will be making sure I get a copy of this original story. Besides, who doesn’t like zombies? Especially World War Two walking dead! And as I mentioned, there are some amazing incentives here. For instance, if you donate twenty bones you get your choice of either a limited original tee or a onesie (for a baby, obviously). Forty-five bucks gets you a print version of the book and the tee (or onesie). But, lo and behold, if you can afford to pony up a hundred and fifty dollars you can be drawn as a zombie in the book!!! That particular reward is going quickly and has limited spaces available. So if that’s your bag then you better jump on it fast. Plus, every pledge of twenty-five bucks or more gets an original sketch in the front of their book!

But no matter what level you pledge to or what perk you want to claim, know that you are doing a wonderful thing by helping someone’s dream come true. That said, if anyone wants to drop a few bucks towards me being a zombie in this comic then I’m game. Check out the rewards I mentioned and many, many more at the official Kickstarter page here. This bad boy ends on October 8, 2013 but don’t wait until the last minute or you could miss out on some of the limited incentives. If I still haven’t give you enough information to help you make up your mind, here’s the first eight pages of the original comic from the first FUBAR anthology here. And you can check out the video below, too.

As I wrote this, I watched the pledges roll in and I’m happy to say that this Kickstarter is not only funded but on the verge of hitting a stretch goal that qualifies many folks for even for free stuff! So this is guaranteed to award prizes to the participants. Don’t be left out in the cold like the undead, pledge today!
