In an announcement not at all shocking to anyone at all, AMC has made the official order for a fifth season of The Walking Dead.
The show still continues to draw huge numbers for every new episode, as fans obsessively tune in to see what else could go wrong for the survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
You can read a statement on the announcement below.
AMC president Charlie Collier said:
“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: The Walking Dead is renewed for a fifth season. This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently – and most notably – with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more Dead.”
Latest showrunner Scott Gimple is set to continue those duties into the next season, and Gale Anne Hurd and comic creator Robert Kirkman will once again be executive producers. All cast members (all who survive season 4, of course) are also expected to return.
