It’s being reported that The Dark Knight Rises and Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to produce an adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s popular comic book series The Sandman with David Goyer for Warner Brothers.
In addition to producing, it’s also being reported that Gordon-Levitt could also star in the adaptation as the protagonist, and might even take on directing duties as well. The actor made his directorial debut recently with the romantic dramedy Don Jon.
The Sandman follows Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams (among many titles), who is captured by an occult ritual and held for 70 years before escaping, exacting revenge on those responsible, and setting off to try and rebuild his kingdom. As described by Gaiman himself, “The Lord of Dreams learns that one must change or die, and makes his decision.”
This has been a project that’s been in the works for quite some time now, but if all goes well, it has the potential to becoming an exciting and unique new franchise for WB.
What do you think about Joseph Gordon-Levitt producing and potentially directing and starring in an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman?
