As the week comes to a close and we prepare for the chaos of Christmas week, it felt like a good time for a little something silly.
A video has been making its way around the ‘net for the past week or so, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you’re in for a treat. It’s a most epic fake commercial for canned beans that’s set in space. It involves astronauts on the moon, an unexpected guest, and a (possibly) unexpected ending.
But the video wasn’t just made for fun, it’s actually a demo by a company called Cinesite to show off their creature animation skills. This isn’t a company trying to get in the game though; they’ve already done work on numerous blockbuster projects including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, John Carter, Skyfall, Iron Man 3, and World War Z.
You can see their faux beans commercial below.
You can also watch a making of the animated short right here, and learn more about Cinesite at their website.
Something tells me we’ll be seeing plenty more from these folks in the future.

EPIC!!

While it’s upsetting to see those convincingly realistic astronauts crushed, that’s a testament to the quality of their CGI work. I might be willing to overlook the alien being audible in a vacuum, but having their punchline depend on a sound getting out of a spacesuit and transmitted through airless space is just carrying the stupidity too far and ruins the joke for me. Surely it’d not THAT hard to think of jokes that work with science rather than against it.
