Originally, the Monsters University short film Party Central was supposed to be shown in front of Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur. However, with that film being bumped to 2015, Disney was forced to shift the short to appear in front Muppets Most Wanted showings. This isn’t the first time that a Pixar-related short has appeared in front of a Muppet film. Back in 2011, the Toy Story short Small Fry appeared before showings of The Muppets.
So now that Disney has figured out when they will release this short, they now have debuted a clip to get audiences excited for another adventure with Mike and Sulley. Hit the jump to see the video.
I’ve already seen the full short at last year’s D23 Expo, and I can tell you that Party Central is hilarious. The short centers on Mike and Sulley turning the dull and boring Oozma Kappa into one of the craziest fraternities Monsters University has ever seen. I won’t spoil how they accomplish this, but the clip does most of the setting up for you.
But believe me when I say this, Party Central, while not original like most of the Pixar shorts, is hilarious and keeps the spirit of the Monsters world alive. Directed by Kelsey Mann, a story supervisor on Monsters University, Party Central will appear before Muppets Most Wanted, which opens in theaters in the U.S. on March 21, 2014 and in the UK on March 28, 2014.
Mike and Sulley return to Monsters University for a fun-filled weekend with their Oozma Kappa fraternity brothers. The gang is throwing their first party, but no one’s showing up. Luckily for them, Mike and Sulley have come with a plan to make sure “Party Central” is the most epic party the school has ever seen.
