Last year’s The Purge was one of 2013’s sleeper hits at the box office, which was enough to convince Universal Pictures to finance its sequel, The Purge: Anarchy. The premise centers on the entire nation shutting off its emergency services and allowing for any crime to occur for a 12 hour period. Ethan Hawke and Lena Headly were some of the headline stars to appear in the first one, but won’t reappear in the second. Instead the film will focus on new characters who are in a much scarier situation than their predecessors.
Now we’ve got our first look at the film in the form of a teaser trailer, which gives us a small look at what happens when you are not in the comfort of your own home. Watch it below.
The Purge: Anarchy stars Frank Grillo, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez, which takes place one year after the events of the first film. In it, a young couple find themselves trying to get home after their car breaks down in the middle of the road hours before the commencement of the purge. But when they realize help is not coming, they do what they can to survive the 12 hours of terror.
It should be interesting to see how audiences will react to this film, and if it will be as big of a hit as the first one.
The Purge: Anarchy opens in theaters on June 20.
