The upcoming Point Break remake has lost its star.
It’s being reported that 300 and Olympus Has Fallen star Gerard Butler has dropped out of the movie, which will be a new take on the 1991 flick of the same name that starred Patrick Swayze as a surfer who’s part of a bank robbing operation and Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent who goes undercover as a surfer trying to find out who’s involved in the robberies.
Butler was in line to play the Swayze role.
Multiple reasons led to Butler’s decision to exit the movie, including creative differences and scheduling conflicts. The actor has the Olympus sequel coming up, London Has Fallen, and the plan is to begin a Point Break shoot that will last multiple months and travel to multiple international locations this June.
Despite Butler’s departure, the remake is still full steam ahead, with plans to recast in the next few weeks.
Point Break will be directed by Ericson Core, and stars Luke Bracey in the role Keanu Reeves played in the original.
