A recent leak seemed to indicate that the next game in Electronic Arts’ Battlefield franchise would be straying from the realms of military conflict and entering some kind of much smaller cops and robbers territory, to put it simply.
This has now been confirmed with the unveiling of an official website for Battlefield: Hardline. Unlike other entries in the series, however, it sounds as if the newest game will offer its single player campaign in episodic fashion in addition to the expected multiplayer options. It’s said to be somewhat along the same lines as the FX series The Shield as far as the characters and action goes.
A video of Battlefield: Hardline gameplay also leaked, but has been getting pulled. The game will be shown off during this year’s E3 convention during EA’s presentation, so a gameplay demo is expected then.
Also worth note is that the new game is being developed by Visceral Games, who are known for working on the Dead Space games. DICE developed the previous games in the franchise, but are busy working on Star Wars: Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge 2 at the moment.
Specific details on the game are cloudy at the moment, but a lot more should be revealed in the coming weeks.
