In last night’s episode of Game Of Thrones — Season 4, Episode #8, “The Mountain and the Viper” — Tyrion Lannister, who’s accused of regicide — finally got his trial by combat, with Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne, aka “The Red Viper,” as his champion and Ser Gregor Clegane, aka The Mountain, fighting at the behest of Cersei Lannister.
So, was the fight everything you’d hoped for? Did you see that ending coming?!?!?
HBO has released several behind-the-scenes videos, including an over 9-minute “inside look” at Episode 7, a featurette that explore’s Sansa’s maturity, Ramsey Snow’s ascension, Dany’s handling of Jorah’s revelation, and of course, the trial by combat. There’s also a short video called “From The First” about Daenerys finding out Jorah’s secret and another called “Learning the Moves” about the Red Viper vs. The Mountain battle scene, as well as a video interview with creator George R.R. Martin called “A Different Purpose” about Sansa’s transformation into a player in the game of thrones.
Watch all the videos here below.
Obviously, SPOILERS.
We didn’t get to the combat portion till the very end, but there was a lot of great material leading up to it – the Wilding’s raid on Mole’s Town, Ramsey Snow’s quest for Reek aka Theon Greyjob, Sansa Stark’s testimony about what happened to her Aunt Lysa (GO SANSA!), Arya Stark’s reaction to hearing certain news, Dany learns an important fact about her right hand man Jorah Mormont, that whole thing with Grey Worm and Missandei. Yes, LOTS happened in this episode.
