The Ant-Man director carousel continues to spin, with more and more names jumping off the ride. Adam McKay was tapped to direct the film at first before dropping out due to prior commitments. Then Marvel started to talk to Rawson Marshall Thurber, since it was rumored that Ruben Fleischer was possibly attached to direct Ghostbusters 3.
Now it appears that Thurber might be out as well.
This leaves Fleischer the only one left on the original director short list that Marvel compiled. Now being attached to Ghostbusters 3 doesn’t mean nearly as much as it does when a studio actually confirms the news, so Fleischer’s name is still being considered. However as previously reported, the director is a new father to a baby girl, and has said he would like to spend more time with his family, and directing a film like Ant-Man is a huge commitment.
ThisIsInfamous was the first to confirm the news of Thurber’s departure from Ant-Man. There is no word on why Thurber may have not agreed to work on Ant-Man. But one has to wonder what will happen to Ant-Man if Fleischer doesn’t want to direct the film? What does that say about Ant-Man itself, with all the controversy surrounding the film, is there a director willing to commit him/herself to the project?
