A remake of the 1983 movie WarGames being developed by MGM has found a writer and director for the project.

The studio has entered into talks with Arash Amel and Dean Israelite to help them make the remake. Amel previously wrote Erased with Aaron Eckhart and most recently penned the script for Grace of Monaco, the movie about actress Grace Kelly’s as a star of the Golden Age of Hollywood and eventual Princess of Monaco that stars Nicole Kidman. Israelite has mostly directed shorts, with his feature directorial debut, Project Almanac (previously titled Welcome to Yesterday), coming soon.

The original WarGames starred Matthew Broderick as a hacker who accidentally accesses a military supercomputer and enters into a nuclear war simulation he thinks is a video game, which leads to a World War III scare.

It was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Writing, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound.
