Marvel Studios has released a funny new clip from their upcoming feature Guardians of the Galaxy that gives us a brief yet interesting look at the dynamic of our intrepid quintet of unlikely heroes. You can watch the minute-long scene here below.
The clip is an extended version of a scene that has been glimpsed in several trailers and TV spots where the Guardians debate possible strategies in taking on big baddie Ronan. The character interactions are hilarious to watch and pure James Gunn, who both wrote and directed the sci-fi comic book adventure that is the last eagerly anticipated film of this summer.
Moments like this are why most of us are looking forward to the release of Guardians. Marvel has proved many times in the past that it can deliver an all-star superhero tentpole blockbuster with style, humor, and surprise with the right cast and creative team in place. I’ve been loving every movie they’ve released thus far and the studio has taken their various interlocked franchises to weird and adventurous new places in Phase Two. Guardians is the last Marvel feature to be released before next summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the only non-sequel in this phase. The latter is bound to look a lot different for Phase Three with Ant-Man and Doctor Strange already in development and a few more waiting to be announced at Comic-Con.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, and the voice talents of Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Josh Brolin. The film opens in theaters on August 1, 2014. I await the opening night as it will finally allow me to dispense with the occasional breakout of cold sweats.
