Fantasy Island had a premise where a few of your favorite things can become a reality. Whatever vices you had could finally be indulged at a secluded paradise hideaway. Of course, having those fantasies does come at a price. It made for a very popular TV show that ran for seven seasons in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Now, Blumhouse has taken that show and given it a cinematic revival, along with a few of its signature touches and added twists. An official trailer for this new Fantasy Island has been released by Sony Pictures, and you can check it out below.
Naturally, a film based on a TV show like this would be a perfect fit for Blumhouse, which has prided itself on producing some unnerving horrors and thrillers. Of course, it will be modernized to make it feel a bit more contemporary.
The film stars Michael Peña as Mr. Roarke, the owner of Fantasy Island and host of the festivities. Lucy Hale, Maggie Q, Portia Doubleday, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, Michael Rooker, Charlotte McKinney, Parisa Fitz-Henley, and Austin Stowell will all play characters who have accepted Mr. Roarke’s offer to visit the island, where their fantasies will come true. These fantasies could range from revenge or being with a loved one. Little do they realize that these aren’t fantasies, and most of what they fantasize about will come at a steep price.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In Blumhouse’s new spin on Fantasy Island, the enigmatic Mr. Roarke makes the secret dreams of his lucky guests come true at a luxurious but remote tropical resort. But when the fantasies turn into nightmares, the guests have to solve the island’s mystery in order to escape with their lives.
Directed by Jeff Wadlow, Fantasy Island opens in theaters on February 14, 2020, making it the perfect Valentine’s Day movie to watch with your loved one.
