The Hateful Eight project has been through some mayhem in the past couple of months. The script leaked, prompting director Quentin Tarantino to kill the project, then it was considered that the draft could be a novel, then there were the live readings, and now the film is back on track after a few rewrites.
But we pretty much knew that already. However, while at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Tarantino announced that he is eyeing a sci-fi film as his next project after The Hateful Eight. Hit the jump for more.
Tarantino confirmed his interest in a sci-fi genre at the Dynamite Entertainment panel at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where he was helping to promote the Django Meets Zorro comic book crossover.
During the Q&A panel covered by Collider, Tarantino confirmed that the The Hateful Eight would be his next film.
“Yeah – We’re going to be doing The Hateful Eight.”
One audience member asked whether he’d be interested in doing a sci-fi film.
You know “” it’s funny: if you had asked me that a few years ago I would’ve said “˜I don’t know. It’s not really my genre. I’m not sure. But you never know.’ Now I have an idea. It wouldn’t be something I’m doing in the next year or so but it’s a little flower right now. A little bean sprout. But those bean sprouts can turn into beanstalks. So this would be the first time I wouldn’t say “˜No – not really.’ This is the first time I would say “˜Yeah “” maybe’. It wouldn’t be a space ship type thing “” travelling through space, going to other planets. It would be more of an earth bound sci-fi thing. But sci-fi nonetheless.
So it’s not officially in the works, but the fact that Tarantino is saying he’s open to it means something. And we can’t be sure he will do one right after The Hateful Eight, but just the idea that he is open to it is exciting enough.
