AMC has ordered a pilot for a companion series to their hit show The Walking Dead, the network announced today.
Dave Erickson, who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, will be the showrunner and executive producer on the new series, while Kirkman and show current producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert are on board the new project as well.
No name has been revealed yet for the new show, which is set to begin production in late 2014. While The Walking Dead focuses on a group in Georgia of survivors of a zombie apocalypse, the companion series will deal with what’s going on in the rest of the world.
“There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of “˜The Walking Dead,’ and I’m happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them,” Kirkman said.
That’s all the details revealed at this time, but if production will begin in a few months, I’m sure we’ll be getting more details relatively soon.
