NBC is developing a TV show based on the 1990 movie Problem Child, which followed a husband and wife adopting a young boy who turns out to be a tiny nightmare, causing unbelievable amounts of trouble.
The movie starred Michael Oliver as the troublemaker and the late John Ritter and his wife-to-be Amy Yasbeck as the parents who adopt him. It also starred Jack Warden, Michael Richards, and Gilbert Gottfried, and spawned two sequels, 1991’s Problem Child 2 and 1995’s Problem Child 3: Junior in Love.
Scot Armstrong, whose previous credits include Road Trip, Starsky & Hutch, School for Scoundrels, The Heartbreak Kid, Semi-Pro, and The Hangover Part II, will work on the script for Problem Child, which is being planned as a 30-minute single-camera comedy.
This isn’t the only older movie NBC is looking to turn into a new TV show, either. Last year they ordered a pilot for a series based on the 1986 Tom Hanks and Shelley Long comedy The Money Pit, which was pushed back to the 2015-2016 pilot season.
