Gone Girl Movie Review

Another week, another edition of The Digital Wire. This week, some of the year’s finest and most entertaining films will soon be available for you to own, rent, stream, or just ignore in lieu of reading a good book. There’s also some total junk coming soon, too. I’ll leave it to you to decide which is which.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Gone Girl

One of the best films of 2014, David Fincher‘s sucker punch adaptation of Gillian Flynn‘s best-selling novel Gone Girl – starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in revelatory performances – arrives on Blu-ray and DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on January 13, 2015. Extra features released so far are slim to say the least and include a commentary from Fincher and a 36-page reproduction of the “Amazing Amy Tattle Tale” book seen in the film.

Fury

I have an update on the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD releases of David Ayer‘s WWII combat drama Fury, set to hit stores on January 27, 2015. The official cover art and full disc specifications have been released. A digital version of the film will be available on December 30, 2014 and supplements will include the featurettes “Blood Brothers”, “Director’s Combat Journal,” “Armored Warriors: The Real Men Inside the Shermans,” and “Taming the Beast: How to Drive, Fire, & Shoot Inside a 30-Ton Tank,” fifty minutes of deleted and extended scenes, and a photo gallery. The DVD version will only include the “Blood Brothers” featurette.

John Wick

Keanu Reeves weathered the mega-budget flop 47 Ronin and made a blazing comeback to action cinema this year as the titular badass hitman in the sleeper surprise hit John Wick, which will debut on Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment on February 3, 2015. Extra features will include an audio commentary (participants not yet revealed) and the featurettes “Don’t F^#% with John Wick,” “Calling In The Cavalry,” “Destiny Of A Collective,” “Assassin’s Code,” “Red Circle,” and “NYC Noir.”

Life Itself

The late legend of film criticism and appreciation Roger Ebert has been further immortalized in the recent documentary Life Itself, directed by Steve James (Hoop Dreams) and based on Ebert’s autobiography of the same name. The film comes to Blu-ray and DVD from Magnolia Home Entertainment on February 17, 2015. Extra features include an interview with James, deleted scenes, and the featurette “AXS TV: A look at Life Itself.”

The Book of Life

The Guillermo Del Toro-produced animated feature The Book of Life, featuring a voice cast headed by Zoe Saldana and Channing Tatum, is coming to Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on January 27, 2015. Both Blu-ray editions will include bonus DVD copies, Digital HD downloads of the film, and the following special features:
