Any news following yesterday’s Marvel Cinematic Universe spoiler filled rumor will be sort of a tough act to follow. But when it comes straight from the directors, it tends to be a bit more exciting since that’s very reliable source.
While the recent rumors have yet to be confirmed, sibling directors Anthony and Joe Russo were in Beijing today where they talked to Sina.com about Captain America: Civil War. The two confirmed that Scarlett Johansson will reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. She will be joined by Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/The Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, and Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, and possibly Jeremy Renner returning as Hawkeye, as well as newcomers Daniel Bruhl, who is playing a mysterious role, and Chadwick Boseman who making his MCU debut as Black Panther.
Hit the jump to see what the Russo brothers had to say.
During the interview, the directors said they were aiming to start principal photography on the third Captain America film this April. Here is what they had to say about Civil War and some of the returning stars.
“We’ve been preparing for the movie since the last one debuted last year,” said Anthony. “So, we’ve been working on it for a long time now. We’re very happy how it’s coming along. Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War and it’s going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”
When asked about the new elements audiences will see in the film, the directors responded by saying,
“The new element in this film is that Captain America and Iron Man get into a fight with each other.”
A very typical answer when it comes to press events like these. No doubt they are keeping things very close to the vest, especially since they haven’t begun shooting yet. Below is a video of the Russos confirming the casting.
