Marvel Shifts Release Dates Of 4 Films After Spider-Man Deal With Sony

Marvel Studios Slate

Well that escalated pretty quickly. Earlier today, Sony and Disney announced a deal that will allow the two to share Spider-Man. This deal would introduce a “new Spider-Man” who will first appear in a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), then get a standalone film for Sony (that will be co-produced by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and former Sony Pictures Co-Chairman Amy Pascal) to be released on July 28, 2017.

It is presumed that this “new Spider-Man” will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, which is set to be released on May 6, 2016, but there’s no confirmation at this time. This “reboot” likely also means the end of Andrew Garfield as the titular character, as well as the Sinister Six spinoff directed by Drew Goddard, the Venom spinoff directed by Alex Kurtzman, and the untitled all female-team spinoff.

With this new development, Marvel Studios is rescheduling the release dates of four of their MCU films. Hit the jump to find out which films will get new release dates.

While Captain America: Civil War‘s release will remain the same at May 6, 2016, most of the films in Phase Three of the MCU will be rescheduled.

According to Marvel, there will be a lot of flip flopping on the Marvel Studios calendar. Thor: Ragnorak will move from its July 28, 2017 release to take Black Panther‘s original release date of November 3, 2017. Black Panther‘s is being moved up to July 6, 2018 release. Captain Marvel will take The Inhumans‘s original release date of November 2, 2018, while The Inhumans is being moved to a later date on July 12, 2019.

The release dates for the two-part The Avengers: Infinity War movies will continue to hold their respective May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019. With this news, Warner Bros and Fox will most like reschedule their respective films if they deem it necessary.

Revised Marvel Studio Slate:

· 5/1/15 – AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
· 7/17/15 – ANT-MAN
· 5/6/16 – CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
· 11/4/16 – DOCTOR STRANGE
· 5/5/17 – GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2
· 11/3/17 – THOR: RAGNAROK
· 7/28/17 – SPIDER-MAN (Sony/Disney co-produced film)
· 5/4/18 – AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PART I
· 7/6/18 – BLACK PANTHER
· 11/2/18 – CAPTAIN MARVEL
· 5/3/19 – AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PART II
