What’s the best weapon to thwart a zombie and the horde it’s roaming with? A knife? A bat? A sword? A gun? No! What about a cheeky, intelligent, battle robot? Yes! Oh, and sexy, Amazonian warriors wouldn’t hurt in the fight either. The zombie apocalypse has begun in Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood’s Zombies vs. Robots Omnibus, and it’s a fast-paced world of destruction and mayhem.
A group of competitive scientists create a time machine that can transport objects to the past or future; however, humans can’t take the physical pressure of going through the device, so the same scientists construct robot suits to wear for entering the unknown. Unfortunately, their journey across time and space doesn’t end well and the ramifications for Earth are … horrific.
Zombies vs. Robots Omnibus is fun – a lot of fun! There is never a dull moment in Ryall’s story. He even manages to incorporate a clever nod to a certain evolutionary missing link. From the egotistical, bickering scientists, to the humorous robot class system, and the various, surprising undead incarnations, the zombie apocalypse never felt so fresh.
With an exciting, action-packed story like Zombies vs. Robots, the illustrations need to be equally thrilling and engaging. Thankfully, Wood is the perfect artist to help tell this tale. He particularly shines when it comes to combat splash pages – of which there are a few incredible ones!
If you haven’t checked out Zombies vs. Robots yet, this is the perfect place to start. I don’t know where you’ll be when the zombie virus spreads, but you can find me next to a weapon-wielding robot.
