First there was Phil Miller (Will Forte) – alone, suicidal, talking to balls. Then there was Carol (Kristen Schaal) – optimistic, quirky, naggy. Melissa (January Jones) was next – gorgeous, down-to-earth, cool. And in last week’s back-to-back episodes, “Dunk the Skunk” and “Some Friggin’ Fat Guy”, Todd shows up – kind, sincere, and friendly. Melissa and Todd immediately click, which drives Phil nuts. He was this close to getting Melissa in bed and it was his guitar fireworks, designed to impress her, that caused Todd to turn his car around and find them. Just in the nick of time. Melissa and Todd’s date orchestrated by Carol was adorable with mini-golf and a jellybean fight.

The Last Man On Earth 1.7 “She Drives Me Crazy” & 1.8 “Mooovin’ Out” review: These two were not as funny as the previous ones, but still held their own. In the first part, Phil is having a hard time dealing with Melissa and Todd “knockin’ boots.” To make matters worse, everyone (all three) wants him to clean out the toilet pool. So wading and crying in human excrement is one of the scenes. Carol wants to move in with her husband, which Phil is totally against. And as you can perhaps get from the title, there’s a cow. Yes. There’s a live cow. Don’t think that Phil can’t find a way to manipulate using a cow. It may be the first time ever that has happened on Earth, but he manages.

Phil, as self-declared (and Carol declared) President of the United States, decides to make some rules, but is voted down, so it’s really similar to the actual job.

Todd is just so genuine and so kind. He is kind of heroic in a really humble way, and the girls just eat it up. Where did he live before this? Disneyland? Or did his struggles really make him better? Dying to know.

I don’t think Phil knows how to be a sincere person. I really want him to see Todd as a real friend the way Melissa and Carol are becoming. This makes me really curious to find out what kind of person he was before the end of the world. I hope and I’m sure they will explore that more.

The Last Man on Earth airs Sunday Nights at 9:00/ 9:30pm ET on FOX.
