Bates Motel 3.6 “Norma Louise” review coming up in a few moments. First – let’s recap last week’s episode.
Last week’s 3.5 “The Deal” found Norma (Vera Farmiga) trying to play with the big boys. After Dylan’s friend cracked the secret of the USB, she dragged Romero (Nestor Carbonell) with her to blackmail Bob Paris (Kevin Rahm). He seemed amenable to her demands. I don’t believe his sincerity though. Norman (Freddie Highmore) told Dylan (Max Thieriot) that he revealed Caleb (Kenny Johnson) was staying at the farm, only… he never did. Dylan confessed to Norma with Norman offering moral support. Needless to say she did not take it well.
Bates Motel 3.6 “Norma Louise” review: Norman is flipping his lid, throwing plates, and screaming at Dylan to “get her back!” Dylan punches him out cold and then tries to get in touch with her. Her response to the calls and texts are perfectly sane. And by perfectly sane, I mean completely bananas. She is on a serious bender. Proceed to self-destruction.
Norman is losing it and Dylan is really nervous. He does not know how to handle it, but Emma comes to his rescue. He reciprocates by pounding on her chest to clear out the lungs and they actually have a semi-romantic moment over a puddle of green-yellow phlegm. It’s better than flowers, I guess.
This episode is so crazy! And all the people are crazy! Every single character, even the almost normal ones like Emma are out of their freakin’ minds!
Sheriff Romero is shot, and he and the gunning-for-his-job Marcus (Adetomiwa Edun) have a mild confrontation in his hospital room and then a not so mild confrontation in the parking lot.
Dylan meets “Norma” for the first time cooking french toast in the kitchen. He plays along with him. The end is nigh, my friends.
Ryan Hurst alert! Again!
The last scene has Norman, Dylan, Norma, and Caleb in it. Were you surprised by how that went?
This was probably my favorite episode of the season thus far.
Bates Motel airs Monday nights at 9pm on A&E.

Bates Motel: Inside the Episode: The Deal (S3, E5)
Sheriff Alex Romero’s skewed morality and relationship with Norma are at the heart of “The Deal,” as Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse describe in this web exclusive.
never a dull moment

This show blows my mind every week. I love it. And Dylan is the only sane one. Emma is not sane at all. She’s dating Norman for god’s sake! And she has seen first hand how crazy the family is, yet she is so committed to them. Any sane person would have bailed on that scene long ago.
