Louie season 5 premiered last week and our favorite awkward comic, Louis C.K., gave us a triple dose of embarrassing scenarios. Before we get to the review of Louie 5.2 “A La Carte,” let’s give a tiny recap of the premiere.
This was undoubtedly the most humiliating episode for our Louie (Louis C.K.) in a long time. He just did the wrong thing at every turn. He decides to go to a potluck for school parents. He ends up at the wrong one after impressively banging out some good-looking fried chicken. After he finally figures this out, he’s forced to go to the local chicken joint to fake out a replacement. He probably should have stayed at the other one because everybody was not nice. I mean, he said lots of weird things, but still.
He helped the surrogate of the hostess Marina to her apartment, and they end up having sex until her water broke, and off to the hospital they went! Marina was infuriated. She wanted the birth to be at a birthing center.
Louie 5.2 “A La Carte” review: Holy shit! Literally. In what might be the greatest opening scene ever (and I am not one who usually goes for jokes of this nature), there is an I-have-to-poop scene, while Louie is out with his daughters (Hadley Delany and Ursula Parker). Since this is relatable to 100% of America, this bit is a home run.
Louie reluctantly agrees to host the open mike night. Steven Wright alert! One of the young comics (not Steven Wright obviously) ask for a critique from Louie, but he was really, really bad.
Louie asks him a very smart question: “What’s funny to you?” When that doesn’t work, he gives some halfhearted advice.
Pamela (Pamela Adlon) is here! We missed you last episode! Louie wants to go see a French film.” She has so much logic about why they shouldn’t but she also says, “Stand up for your stupid ideas! Make a case.” I think they’re kinda perfect for each other.
Louie softly asks her to move in with him in his roundabout Louie way. She does not want to ruin things. This woman is my hero.
I don’t really blame her though for looking around at all the people laughing at Louie’s jokes, and laughing along with them. You could almost read her mind. Funny is the sexiest thing on earth.
Louie airs Thursday nights at 10:30pm ET on FX.
