The excellent cast for Disney’s upcoming live action remake of their 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast just keeps on getting better and better.
The latest actors to be cast are Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci, rounding out a cast that already includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Ian McKellen, and Audra McDonald. McGregor is set to play Lumiere, the maître d’ who is transformed into a talking candelbra. Tucci will play a new character, a grand piano named Cadenza who is described as a “neurotic maestro.”
For those who have not been following the movie’s castings, here’s who everyone else is playing:
– Watson, who’s best known for roles in the Harry Potter Franchise, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Noah, will be playing the lead, Belle.
– Stevens, who’s best known for Downton Abbey, The Guest, and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, is set to play the Beast/Prince.
– Evans (Dracula Untold, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Furious 7) will play the film’s villain, the narcissist Gaston.
Rounding things out, Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Howards End, Love Actually) and Kline (A Fish Called Wanda, Silverado, Bob’s Burgers) are set to take on the roles of Mrs. Potts and Belle’s father Maurice; Gad (Frozen, 1600 Penn, The Comedians) will play LeFou; McKellen (The Lord of the Rings, X-Men) is set to play Cogsworth; and McDonald (Private Practice, Annie) will play Garderobe.
McGregor’s previous roles include Trainspotting, Black Hawk Down, Big Fish, the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and Moulin Rouge!, in which he did some singing, which could prove useful in his role as Lumiere.
Beauty and the Beast will be directed by Bill Condon, whose previous credits include Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters, Kinsey, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, The Fifth Estate, and Mr. Holmes, which also stars McKellen.
The movie is currently scheduled for a March 17, 2017 release.
