Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies, step-mommies, grandmas, aunts, single daddies, and everyone who has had to raise a child! Bates Motel, in honor of this glorious day, has released this video exclusive, as an homage to their “Mother of the Year,” Norma Louise Bates (Vera Farmiga).
Watch the video here below.
This web-only clip from the Psycho TV prequel highlights Norma’s wonderful and not so wonderful mothering of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore). Complete with captions, and innocent jingle music, the video is so funny and so creepy at the same time.
It includes:
– Spooning with Norman.
– Cooking for him.
– Giving or yelling sexual advice – having the “talk.”
– Abandoning him.
– Throwing away his taxidermy projects.
“I hear ya. But I can’t take care of myself. I’m a mother.”
Throughout is the “too close” undertones (or overtones) of the relationship with Norman that… while not incestual as of yet on her part, still flirts around the border of inappropriate. Now while we know Norman is as off the charts crazy, we also know that Norma is at fault for the pushing and pulling of emotions, for being overprotective of him, and then looking for help when it becomes too much. She is at fault. I just don’t think anyone can deny that she does love her son Norman. He is her “whole world.”
Perhaps it should be noted that she barely acts like a mother to Dylan (Max Thieriot), so when she does, it’s like, “Hallelujah!” No wonder he’s getting so attached to his uncle dad.
So enjoy! And Happy Mother’s Day from Bates Motel and Geeks of Doom!
The Bates Motel season 3 finale airs tomorrow, May 11th at 9pm ET on A&E.
