The crew at Industrial Light and Magic aren’t revered as wizards of the visual effects world without good reason. Thanks to the folks over at Wired, we now get a glimpse of some of the magic going into the eagerly awaited Warcraft with the release of a pair of new official images. The film is based on the popular video game series World of Warcraft from Blizzard Entertainment.
The two images give us a glimpse of the Orc hero, Orgrim Doomhammer, warchief of the Horde. He’s brought to life by British actor Robert Kazinksky, who was cast back in December of 2013 along with Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, and Toby Kebbell. Orgrim was announced when the movie’s lineup of characters and who’s playing them was revealed last year.
You can see the official images of Orgrim Doomhammer below.
Warcraft is being directed by Duncan Jones, whose previous credits include Moon and Source Code. Jones told Wired:
“We were looking for someone who would be able to perform the gruffness, the humor, and the toughness of this character.”
While CGI has become somewhat controversial in the eyes of audiences who view “overuse” of CGI to be a problem, the technology keeps advancing further and further to help create incredibly lifelike renditions of characters. From the images we’re seeing so far with Jones’ Warcraft, it’s likely that we’ll be treated to some mind-blowing visuals when it arrives in 2016. Maybe if we sweet talk Legendary Pictures and Blizzard, we can get a trailer soon. I’m sure it’s going to be truly incredible given what we’re seeing already.
Legendary’s WARCRAFT is a 3D epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based upon Blizzard Entertainment’s globally-renowned universe. Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Duncan Jones, the film is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production. The producers are Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Alex Gartner and Stuart Fenegan. Jillian Share, Brent O’Connor, Michael Morhaime and Paul Sams serve as executive producers. Rob Pardo, Chris Metzen, Nick Carpenter and Rebecca Steel Roven co-produce.
Warcraft is scheduled for release on June 10, 2016.
