We’ve got roughly 6,000 new comics being announced this week and here’s one of them, so let’s get into this with Klaus, coming from Grant Morrison, uber-author extraordinaire (The Multiversity, All-Star Superman, Batman Inc).
Klaus, out in November from BOOM! Studios, is an all-ages comic about the secret origins of that jolliest of saint’s, Santa Claus. Art for the series will be provided by Dan Mora.
Klaus is an all-ages fantasy epic starring one of the most well-known figures in the world, re-created for an audience raised on superheroes like Batman, Thor, and Iron Man. This is the story of how Santa Claus really began, drawing on his wilder roots in Viking lore and Siberian shamanism: What was he like when he was young? Why does he do what he does? And what happens when he faces his greatest challenge?
Judging from the preview image below, Klaus is going to take the story of Father Christmas in a direction we haven’t seen before, which is exactly what you would expect from Morrison. This certainly doesn’t seem like your standard Morrison project, but that may be one of the things that makes me interested in this. It’s good to see Morrison trying out different stuff now that he isn’t working on projects strictly for DC.
Is Klaus the kind of thing you want to see from Morrison, or do would you rather see him stick to superhero work? Let us know what you think below.
