A new trailer for the mountain climbing drama Everest has been released. Based on real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, in which two mountain climbing teams, having successfully scaled the world’s tallest mountain, must find their way down the summit before a sudden storm kills them.
Check out the latest trailer for the film below.
The latest trailer seems to be more interested in the natural obstacles than the character interactions, though there is a little bit of that sprinkled throughout the trailer.
Everest stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Though the characters determination to survive will provide some good drama, it is the sweeping beauty of Everest that will have us gasping for air. In order to capture the realism of Everest Mountain, the film was shot in various mountainous locations including the Ötztal Alps in Italy, and the mountains of Iceland, as well as the footsteps of Everest in Nepal. It was also filmed at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, and Pinewood Studios in the U.K., to get the shots that they couldn’t get while filming at the aforementioned mountains. The scenery alone will surely take your breath away, and will be even more uneasy to watch, given that IMAX 3D is also an option.
Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns, Contraband) and produced by Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, it was written by William Nicholson (Gladiator) and Oscar® winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire).
Everest opens in theaters, 3D, and IMAX 3D on September 18th.
