Of course they picked Fantastic Four! Hollywood is making it too damn easy for the gang at Screen Junkies. Since every week Hollywood pedals out its latest sequel, remake, or remake-quel, the Screen Junkies guys simply use the material in front of them. Last week it was the Mission Impossible series to prep for Rogue Nation. This week with the newest attempt to bleed money from the Marvel stone hitting theaters Friday, its time to rip up 2005’s The Fantastic Four & and it’s crappy sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Narrator Jon Bailey takes us back to a time when comic book movies were starting to be great (X-Men, Spider-man), and then shows us the opposite. First off – Tim Story, the director of action classics like… Barbershop and Taxi (!?), why was he given the reigns to this franchise? Why!!! This was the first super team! For those who think that these were the first really bad Fantastic Four films, there was a terrible 1994 Roger Corman version also. Bailey’s solution, just watch Pixar’s The Incredibles. He’s right.
Bailey reserves his anger at the same horrible decisions that left audiences furious back in the mid 2000s. Galactus is NOT a space cloud! In fact, he nicely montages all comic book movies using space cloud villains to point how ridiculous they are (FF2, Hulk, Green Lantern). After spending almost 2-minutes picking on the lame aspects of the movies, Bailey knocks it out with a classic, “Before seeing the third and hopefully final attempt to launch the Fantastic Four, relive the original two disappointments, who gave their lives so that Chris Evans could be free to play a decent Captain America.”
Starring… Ioan Gruffudd… aka No One Knows how to Pronounce My Name, and CapTorch Humerica… Craptastic Bore! There’s also a great line in here for all the Andrea-Hater Walking Dead fans, and he ends with a hilarious take on the Heath Ledger “everyone loses their minds” line from Dark Knight, that tackles the casting decisions. Screen Junkies have over 4.6 million subscribers on YouTube and they release a new Honest Trailer every Tuesday.
Fantastic Four opens this Friday, August 6th in theaters everywhere.
