Let Me Make You A Martyr explores the perversion of the American dream in a forgotten culture of middle America. This story documents the lives of two characters who have fallen victim to tragic circumstances, June and Drew Glass – two adopted siblings (from different parents) who have fallen in love. We experience their struggle to preserve that love from the evil that encompasses the world around them. Drew had gotten himself into a great deal of trouble with their adoptive father Larry, who is a murderous criminal with a short fuse. As a result, Drew had to skip town and his whereabouts have been unknown for 4 years. The story picks up when Drew returns to try to make sense of his tumultuous past and rekindle the love he once had – this is the premise of our story. The first scene begins in an interrogation room with a detective (Michael Potts). The events that lead Drew to the interrogation are recounted in a series of flash backs.
Drew and June are reunited after Drew robs Larry’s stash house upon his arrival into town where they both catch wind of each others whereabouts. In a feeble attempt to take Larry’s crime ring down and satisfy their selfish desire for revenge, they unintentionally end up assuming responsibility of a young girl, Rooney. Rooney is six years old, she has been missing for a few weeks and has been the subject of a statewide manhunt since her disappearance. We soon learn Rooney comes from a broken home much like Drew and June. So now they are left with a choice – continue with their quest for revenge, or save the life of this innocent young girl from the cycle of abuse they grew up in. With a lot of luck and help from their dysfunctional yet benevolent friends, the events of our story unfold.
As the story moves forward we follow Drew and June in their quest to escape town with Larry’s money and Rooney in tow. Larry has hired a reclusive hit man known only as “Pope” (Marilyn Manson) to track down and kill Drew as well as anyone involved in his plan. We are taken on a journey through the depths of a world countless lives have fallen victim to. This is a film that offers a unique and compassionate perspective on addiction, abuse, and the everlasting battle for true love.
Let Me Make You A Martyr actually has a Kickstarter campaign going right now. The movie is already filmed, which is why this isn’t a full-on Kickstarter Spotlight, but they’re looking for just a bit more cash to put into post production. If you’d like to chip in a bit you can check out the various rewards over at the campaign page.
