The Weinstein Company has released the newest trailer for Justin Kurzel‘s big-screen adaptation of William Shakespeare’s dark play Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender as the title character who rises to power to seize the throne with the help of his wife, Lady Macbeth (Marion Cotillard)
Macbeth is already complete with The Weinstein Company acquiring the distribution rights and it already premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival where it was met with rave reviews. It’s now ready for its limited theatrical release this December, and judging by the looks of the trailer, we should be in for a major awards campaign.

The trailer’s pull quotes are just a small indication of how great the film is. Currently, Macbeth has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes based only on 13 reviews.
The scope of Macbeth looks epic. The wide scenery shots, the set pieces, and what looks to be an epic battle scene, everything about Kurzel’s latest, including the powerful performances from Fassbender and Cotillard makes Macbeth one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. Set in war-torn 11th century Scotland, the story centers on Macbeth, a general to a great king who receives a prophecy from three witches who tell him that he himself will become king. Driven by blind ambition, and with the help of his wife, Macbeth becomes king, but soon becomes struck with guilt realizing the error of his ways when he took the throne, and will soon be forced to commit high crimes in order to cover up his sins.
Macbeth also stars Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Harris, David Thewlis, Jack Reynor, and Paddy Considine. It opens stateside on December 4, 2015.
