One of the more eagerly anticipated titles coming out near the holidays is that of EA and Dice’s Star Wars: Battlefront. This morning, EA confirmed that there will be a beta test event in early October and fans can expect to have access to a major battle on Hoth and will indeed have control of two iconic characters in Luke Skywalker and the Dark Lord himself, Darth Vader.

Coming early October to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC, the Star Wars Battlefront Beta* is a technical test and will feature Walker Assault on Hoth, a 40-player multiplayer battle featuring Rebels and the Empire. Walker Assault will also give you the chance to play as two of the most iconic characters in the Star Warsâ„¢ universe: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The Beta will also feature our Survival Mission on Tatooine, where you and a Rebel friend must fight back waves of Imperial forces.
You may remember that EA and Dice gave us a small preview of gameplay in a couple of gameplay trailers released during E3 this past June. Now, we will finally get to pick up a blaster and go to work ourselves. Check out the Hoth video at that link and the video below for a preview of what’s coming to beta.
Also, if that wasn’t big news enough. During the beta, EA will be releasing a preview of the companion app that will be arriving before November 17th on the website that gives players access to the app plus a new playable strategic card game, Base Command. Players can then collect items from Base Command such as currency and even weapons to be used in Star Wars: Battlefront. Of course the companion will also track stats and numbers for the player to document their progression in the game (and of course a killer k/d ratio probably).
Finally, something else coming to beta will be “Drop Zone” which we will learn about in the coming weeks leading up to the beta test.
All I know is that I’m clearing my calendar in anticipation of crushing some Rebel scum! Star Wars: Battlefront is set to release on November 17th of this year for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The beta test is expected in early October.
