Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning Mad Men star Jon Hamm is the latest actor to join the cast of Baby Driver, the next project from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright.
The movie centers on a mute getaway driver with an ear condition that requires him to always be listening to his own personal soundtrack in order to alleviate the constant ringing in his ears, who finds himself and the things most important to him in great danger when a job he does for a crime boss goes wrong. Hamm will play one of the film’s villains, a member of the gang and cop killer who used to work on Wall Street.
Hamm joins a cast that includes Ansel Elgort (The Divergent Series: Insurgent, The Faults In Our Stars) as the getaway driver, Lily James (Cinderella, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as a waitress and the love interest of the getaway driver who is also put in danger’s path when the job goes bad, and Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained) in a currently unspecified role.
This is Hamm’s first physical feature film appearance since his run on Mad Men ended. He has previously starred in movies like The Day the Earth Stood Still, Shrek Forever After, The Town, Sucker Punch, and Million Dollar Arm, and has appeared on TV shows, aside from his best known work on the aforementioned Mad Men, such as The Division, What About Brian, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, 30 Rock, Childrens Hospital, A Young Doctor’s Notebook, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He was most recently seen (and heard) in Minions, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, and TripTank.
The movie also marks Wright’s first project since 2013’s The World’s End. The director worked on the Marvel feature Ant-Man for multiple years before eventually deciding to walk away from the movie.
Baby Driver is currently scheduled for a March 17, 2017 release.
