Last week on Heroes Reborn, Angela (Cristine Rose) took the girl baby, Malina, to a sanctuary in 1999, while Hiro (Masi Oka), now powerless, found the nurse and raised Tommy (Robbie Kay) as their own. Noah found them and they were just about to We got to see how Miko (Kiki Sukezane) came to be. How the Collins family (Zachary Levi and Judith Shekoni) came to be EVO-killing vigilantes were revealed as well. Carlos (Ryan Guzman) used to be a scared soldier saved by his girlfriend (I think) Farah (Nazneen Contractor), who then left to train Malina (Danika Yarosh).
Spoilers below.
Heroes Reborn 1.9 “Sundae, Bloody Sundae” recap/review: Whew! The roller coaster is still running! Noah (Jack Coleman) runs into all the ramifications time travel can offer, with bunches and bunches of butterflies, some that are probably not revealed as yet. The biggest one is that Quentin (Henry Zebrowski) was not killed, and is working with Erica (Rya Kihlstedt) and Phoebe (Aislinn Paul).
The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis) was also not killed, because Noah used Casper the penny man, to erase his memory instead, therefore he never had to confront him. We see the Haitain recruit Taylor (Eve Harlow) to rescue Hero Truther aka Micah Sanders. Remember the little boy who could control technology in the original series?
There’s a place called Sunstone, that seems like EVO heaven, but it’s run by Matt Parkman so we KNOW it has to all be an illusion. Carlos finds the priest and his nephew who don’t want to go anywhere. Then Matt explores the war memories where he was a coward. Parkman makes Dylan kill himself.
Joanne lures Tommy to the ice cream shop by threatening Emily (Gatlin Green). It just so happens that Luke and Malina go there too. Kudos to Judith Shekoni for a solid performance of sweaty desperation. By the way, Luke’s power sucks. He can’t even use that for good. It’s a standoff until…
Tommy finally channels the best Hiro Nakamura power of all – stopping time. And he was just in time to stop a bullet about to hit his girl. He was not able to save the penny man though. He is captured and taken to Erica.
This was another exciting episode. I did not know where to look next, but I enjoyed the ride.
I’m really excited about next week. I’m super confused about bunches of things, but I love how crazy everything is.
Some thoughts/questions:
– I assume Tommy can still do the time warp even though he was taken out temporarily. Phoebe just dampened him.
– I could be way off base, but could one of the butterflies be that Erica’s secret secret mission was to save everyone after all? I have no evidence for this. It’s just a crazy thought that popped in my head.
– What that hell is Katana Girl doing almost 8,000 years in the future? Wasn’t she just a video game?
– I’m very afraid for Hiro. Harris came and scooped up Joanne. Does that mean Hiro died? Or just that a different clone was a driver?
– After watching Dark Matters and this series thus far, I fully expected Hero Truther and the gang to have a much more prominent role in the series. How much can they possibly help now?
– How will Malina and Tommy save the world? What is everyone else’s role?
Heroes Reborn airs Tuesday nights at 8pm ET on NBC.
