A new trailer for Jane Got A Gun has just been released. The film stars Natalie Portman as the titular character who finds herself in the crosshairs of a notorious gang led by Ewan McGregor, who is out to kill her and her husband. So she seeks help from a former flame (Joel Edgerton) in hopes that they can stop the outlaws together.
There is no hiding the fact that the movie has had a very public troubled production history. With Relativity’s financial problems, lawsuits, and directors and lead actors coming and going, the project almost didn’t happen. However, Portman was the only one who stuck with it, in addition to Portman, McGregor, and Edgerton, the film also stars Noah Emmerich (The Americans). Jude Law (Spy), Michael Fassbender (Macbeth), and Bradley Cooper (Joy) previously passed on the roles. Gavin O’Connor is the film’s director.
The first trailer was met with mixed reactions. Its awkward cut and strange pacing didn’t really bode well for the film. But this new trailer is a much needed improvement. Check it out below.
The film was actually scheduled for a release earlier this year, but because Relativity had filed for bankruptcy, they pushed its release back. Eventually The Weinstein Company would pick it up. But with such a troubled history, there is very little hope that the film could be any good, which is a bit disappointing considering that there are very few westerns out now, especially ones with a female as the lead. Still, you really don’t want a film to fail, and who knows, maybe Jane Got A Gun might be a pleasant surprise.
Jane Got A Gun opens in theaters January 29th, 2016.
Jane Got a Gun centers on Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman), who has built a new life with her husband Bill “Ham” Hammond (Noah Emmerich) after being tormented by the ultra-violent Bishop Boys outlaw gang. She finds herself in the gang’s cross-hairs once again when Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after dueling with the Boys and their relentless mastermind Colin (Ewan McGregor).
With the vengeful crew hot on Ham’s trail, Jane has nowhere to turn but to her former fiancé Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for help in defending her family against certain destruction. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.
