Skitliv is a Norwegian blackened doom metal supergroup which features former Mayhem vocalist Sven Erik “Maniac” Kristiansen and former Shining vocalist Niklas Kvarforth. The band’s name literally means “shitty life” in Norwegian and is an appropriate moniker for a band with such a bleak and misanthropic sound.
Today’s Black Metal Friday track comes from the band’s only proper, full-length release, 2009’s Skandinavisk Misantropi. It is the album’s third track and is entitled “Hollow Devotion.”
The more observant amongst you may have noted that that spoken word part is delivered by none other than infamous ex-Gorgoroth and current God Seed vocalist Gaahl. Skandinavisk Misantropi is an excellent, if often overlooked master work from some of the brightest minds in the genre. I strongly urge you to check it out. Hopefully it is not the last that we will hear of Skitliv.
