The Return of the Living Dead

Shout! Factory’s horror genre label Scream Factory has a brand new Collector’s Edition of the ’80s zombie classic The Return of the Living Dead on the way, and full details on the release have now been revealed.

The two-disc release is set to arrive later this year in July, and will feature not only a bunch of bonus goodies on each disc, but also the original soundtrack (or most of it, at least) that played with the movie when it was in theaters—something previous home video releases have not had.

You can read all the details and check out the cover art below.

Here’s what Scream Factory said about the soundtrack:

“For our new transfer we have gone back to the original audio tracks to create a new soundtrack. Only one song – The Damned’s “Dead Beat Dance” – could not be cleared for inclusion on the disc unfortunately. Otherwise, the rest will be the original audio as heard in the theaters when the film played first-run.”

And here’s a synopsis and a rundown of all of the bonus features the two-disc Collector’s Edition will include:

“A fresh and immensely entertaining take on the zombie genre.” – Film Threat

A fiendish mix of outrageous humor and heart-stopping terror, The Return of the Living Dead is “a veritable smorgasbord of fun” (L.A. Herald Examiner)!

On his first day on the job at an army surplus store, poor Freddy (Thom Mathews) unwittingly releases nerve gas from a secret U.S. military canister, unleashing an unbelievable terror. The gas re-animates an army of corpses, who arise from their graves with a ravenous hunger… for human brains! And luckily for those carnivorous cadavers, there is a group of partying teens nearby, just waiting to be eaten!
