The Ghostbusters reboot has been met with an inevitable catch 22, with an outcry of fans criticizing the film either mimicking the original too much or being too different from the original because of the contemporary tone. There doesn’t seem to be any way that the film can win.
Despite that, Sony will move forward with the new reboot directed by Paul Feig. The reboot stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the new team who will save their city from what McCarthy’s character describes as “The Apocalypse.” While we have all seen something like that before, we haven’t really seen it through the perspective of four very funny leading female comedians. And hopefully that will dispel any doubts or worries. Check out the new trailer for Ghostbusters below.
The trailer, which appeared first on Twitter, seems to have learned from the mistakes of the first trailer. Instead of confusing the audience with details that seemed to link the reboot with the original, after many involved said it wasn’t, this trailer skips all of that with Michael McDonald who describes the ghastly ghosts as an evil that no one should ever encounter, which is then followed up with, “Except you girls, I think you can handle it.”
I’m sure the questions, “What do we think of these Ghostbusters? Are they to be taken seriously?” is a jab at critics and naysayers. There are some solid jokes and the visuals look impressive. If anything, I’d go to just to watch McKinnon and Jones, she looks like she is having the most fun of the four. Not that McCarthy or Wigg are not putting forth the same effort, it’s just that the two seem to bring in a different energy.
But of the two trailers, this has to be the one with the most spoilers as it contains some spoilerly plot details as well as two very familiar ghouls. So if you want to see this film unsullied, then I suggest you not watch this trailer.
