Amazon is developing a crime drama series inspired by Martin Scorsese’s Best Picture winner The Departed as well as the movie it was a remake of, the 2002 Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs.
The show will offer a new take on the basic premise of the movies, following the parallel stories of a cop infiltrating a criminal organization while a cop with ties the same criminal organization acts as a mole.
This new take on the series is written by Jason Richman, who was the creator of the TV series Detroit 1-8-7 and also worked on the screenplays for movies Bad Company, Swing Vote, and Bangkok Dangerous.
The show will be set in Chicago, where ethnic gangs are entangled in an ongoing drug war. In it a young cop will be asked to go undercover in a Latino gang, which has its own member working in the police system.
Amazon Studios is producing the project along with the 2006 movie’s production companies Vertigo Entertainment, Plan B Entertainment, and Initial Entertainment Group.
